SAVE THE BARN!
Submitted by Dana, Boston
My husband graduated in 1979, and the stories I have heard over the years about Norfolk Aggie are some of his happiest memories. He still to this day proudly displays his trophy for FFA Dairy Judging. I would love for this piece of history and many happy memories to be preserved so many more children can experience what so many others have since the school first opened in 1919.

Save my children's memories
Submitted by Aggie Mom, South Shore
We used to live in Walpole, right across the street from the Aggie. Two of our 3 daughters attended the school. One from 1992 to 1996 and one from 1996 to 2000! I watched my girls grow and thrive at the Aggie. They loved going there and my husband and I loved knowing they were learning about the things they loved most in the world...horses mostly, but all the animals living on the beautiful Aggie campus. But, in addition to that, all my children played at the Aggie when they were little. We'd walk over and "play" with the horses, pigs and cows. We LOVED it there and the barn was a huge part of our excursions.
We MUST save this beautiful and historic building. It is so special to so many students who are now adults and bringing their own children back to see where they spent some of the happiest and most special times of their lives.
Please save this barn. It is home to so many wonderful animals and gives people a chance to witness life from another era.
Please save this beautiful barn.
Please.

Cows need a home too!!
Submitted by Lindsey, Boston
I graduated from the Aggie in 1999. I wasn't sure what I wanted to major in and then I signed up to show a cow and met Pumpkin (a dairy heifer). I was hooked and spent the next four years showing cows every summer and working for the school. All my extracurricular activities ended up getting me accepted to a great college. Now the Aggie can't keep a herd of dairy cows due to the disrepair of the barn. This isn't just about an old barn, it's about continuing to give kids learning oppurtunities and teach them responsibility. I was never one of those kids hanging around town with nothing to do - I was to busy halter-breaking my calf. The dairy barn is a symbol of the school, it is what people remember when they come to visit and it would be a shame to lose it for future generations.

Fond Memories
Submitted by Rebecca L., South Shore
I was a student at Norfolk Aggie from 2000 to graduate in 2004. I "grew up" on that school campus, as have so many others, learning valuable life skills that have helped me in so many ways even now. There are many, many fond memories of my life at that school. I always looked forward to getting up in the morning and getting on the bus. There was always something new to learn. On one particular day, I had been asked to help do a very odd job with a handful of other students while doing our vocational classes. We were to help load hay bales, stacking them up in this old red barn that presided over the center of the school. It was early summer, almost time for school to get out for vacation, and it was hot. But those who were asked jumped at the opportunity. Our reward? Scratched hands and arms, sweat lining our shirts, sore backs, and satisfaction that we successfully completed the job.
That barn not only overlooks the center of the school, it is part of the heart of those who have spent four years (sometimes less, sometimes more) of their lives on that property. When we graduate, the barn is in the background, sturdy and solid, a reminder to remember our pasts as we move forward, just as the barn itself is from a past era, reminding us how things used to be done.

Please Save the Aggie Barn
Submitted by pcolleran, West of Boston
My son attends NCAHC for three years now and has worked there for that time. This barn is an essential part of the culture there, and it seems a shame that it is in disrepair and might be lost if help is not found. Please help to restore this building. We need to hang on to some history...and it sure seems like this particular building has had many a student enter, learn, and go forward with a lot of good work done inside it!

Memories
Submitted by Rick, South Shore
In the summer of 1964, Bob Marshall, Jim Brundrett, and I worked at the barn. Back then when you worked at the barn, you lived in the loft upstairs. Wayne Osborne was the herdsman. He’d get us up at 4:30 in the morning. We get a break and the afternoon then work til 7 that night. Hard work but fun. (Nothing like a squirt gun fight with cows!) It was the one of the most memorable summers of my life. - Rick Enright

PLEASE SAVE THE BARN!!!!
Submitted by Sarah, South Shore
I graduated in 1996 from NCAHS and have so many fond memories of this school. I met my huspand when I was a freshman here and his sister is also a graduate. I have so many memories of that barn. I still remember meeting "Beauty K" for the first time, up until that day I never gave any cow a second thought but here was this amazing, beautiful, HUGE beauty staring at me. I walked her around at the open house that year and I showed her in the Soring show in 1995 and won FIRST place (well she won first place). With all the time we spent in this barn we all got so attached to these cows (who would have thought) I can't even begin to imagine what the school; is like without the dairy program and this landmark! Please vote to save this barn the community and the students need it!

Norfolk Aggie Student
Submitted by kerry, Boston
I am currently a student of the norfolk county agricultural high school. The dairy barn is a large part of the campus and getting the opportunity to restore the dairy barn to its former glory would be a great improvement to not only the campus but also all of the students at the school. Not only would the dairy barn be able to be a part of the future but it would hold the history of our school. To see this building newly preserved would remind us all of what agriculture has meant throughout the years. It is a reminder of or past and a vision of our future.

The Norflok Aggie barn is an historic example of a New England barn that graces the campus of the excellent agricultural high school in Walpole, Ma. It would be fantastic if this prized architectural specimen could be rendered more useful. It would also be very nice for the school to have it's own barn be made an historic landmark.

Help Restore The Aggie's Dairy Barn
Submitted by FreeSpirit, South Shore
The Aggie's dairy barn has soo many special meanings for me. I graduated from the Aggie in 2000 & was an Animal Science major. I spent soo much time in the barn, learning about the different ways to milk a cow, learning how to clean & maintain the barn, helping Mr Green with rounding up the cows & feeding twin calves, ... sooo many memories there! It deserves to be restored so it can be used again, back to it's full potential. My husband also graduated from the Aggie in 2002 & his father (rest his soul) graduated in 1968. It's been the starting & ending point of the haunted hayride for years. Please support us in the restoration of this great landmark.

The barn
Submitted by Otis, West of Boston
Teacing young kids about the value of animals is so important. I hope this next generation will be kinder and more humane to all of our living creatures. Very sad what our previous generations have done.
Having a wonderful barn like this is so important since it's a place for them to learn and appreciate how wonderful all animals are in their own way and that they do suffer if not treated correctly.

Help us save our Dairy barn :]
Submitted by aggie_kid, West of Boston
I am a current freshmen at Norfolk Aggie, so i have never seen what the barn used to be, but i can imagine it was a lot better than what it is. Currently it is not structurally safe to be used for anything except storage. While the outside of it is still quite pretty it would be a lot better if the inside could be usable. What is an agricultural school with out it's dairy barn? Us the students of the aggie would be able to learn much more if we had a workable dairy barn, right now we really do not learn much on dairy production, and so if we get this grant we will actually get to learn about this. Learning about these things during school is what makes all of us aggie kids love school, seriously how many high school students do you hear that from? PLEASE VOTE FOR NORFOLK AGGIE DAIRY BARN!!! :]

Save the Barn
Submitted by Julie, South Shore
My father graduated from the aggie in 1946 and numerous family members followed over the years. My son is a junior. The dailry barn was built in 1919 and was a focal point of the Aggie back in the 1940's. Career opportunities at NCAHS have expanded with time as has the uses of the dailry barn. It is an important part of the Aggie's past and future. We can not allow this icon of NCAHS to be lost. Livestock need to be an active part of the. The barn needs to be renovated as a part of the legacy of NCAHS. Let's save the barn!

My history of the Dairy Barn
Submitted by Aggie Grad, South Shore
I am a graduate of NCAHS. I attended the school from 1982-1986. I chose Large Animals as my subject of study. I also worked as a student worker on the farm. I was resposible for milking of the cows in the morning and the afternoon. On weekends it was only me to look after the large animals. There was resident staff on site for emergencies only. I would arrive at the barn from my home at 5am in the morning which meant I had to get up at 4 to 4:15 in the morning to go to work and not leave until after 5:30 pm after the evening milking . One thing I was taught was responsability. The milking of the cows was my responsability and there was no one around to bale me out if I was unable to complete my tasks. Keep in mind I was only 16 - 18 years of age at the time. The barn should be saved and returned to a working dairy barn so the students can learn responsibility, a skill set and have hands on experience. This will help them become a productive citizen. Working in the Dairy Barn was truly one of the most memerable parts of my life.

Dair Barn is Amazing!
Submitted by M, South Shore
Becoming a student of the aggie has probably been the best thing that has ever happened to me and actually getting a chance to work in all the vocational fields that the school offers has been great! Helping to restore the Dairy Barn would mean so much to everyone at the Aggie including myself. There have been a lot of good memories that I've had at the dairy barn from haunted hayride to just helping out during open house. Some students have even witnessed the birth of a brand new member of the herd. My friends, the students of the aggie, truly love that dairy barn and we wish that it can be restored so that it can continue to run for the future students of the Aggie!

SAVE THE BARN!!!
Submitted by Dashie, Boston
The Dairy Barn is a huge part of NCAHS as well as the town of Walpole. I attended Norfolk County Agricultural High School from 1998 - 2002. The dairy barn, even before that time, was and still is a tribute to, and a reminder of the historical richness the town of Walpole and NCAHS has contributed to the present. Finally, the Dairy Barn has contributed to the past and present day, I can only imagine what is possible in the future.
If the barn is torn down, the spirits of all the citizens in Walpole, Westwood, and other towns in the Boston area that have come to know, love and respect the Dairy Barn and its history will have their spirits torn down too. So, please save this landmark that the Young and Old at heart who have made this structure apart of their life.

Submitted by Sarah, South Shore
Barns are an integral part of any agricultural environment and this dairy barn is a focal point for the campus of the Agricultural High School - a place where high school students learn to appreciate the hard work and benefits of working the land. This structure deserves to be repaired because it is part of the architectural and agricultural heritage of the Greater Boston area. The benefits to the community, students, and future generations will be tremendous.

Restoring this barn would refresh the school curriculum, enrich the community with various programs that would involve the structure, and provide future opportunity for Aggie students.
