From one generation to the next
Submitted by Dee, North Shore
I remember my father taking me to the NE Aquarium every month from the time I was a very little girl. I started taking my daughter when she was less than one and my son too (they are now 7 and 3). I have made it a place to go for us all to enjoy, learn and relax after my daughter finishes her stressful and sometimes painful medical appointments at Children's Hospital. We lived away from the area for a couple of years while I was at medical school and we returned home to Massachusetts when my daughter was first diagnosed. We love the Aquarium and we would be very sad if it were not a part of our lives. My daughter thinks someday she might like to be a vet and take care of aquatic animals. We always have a wonderful time there and we look forward to the programs to come for our children to take part in and learn from.

Aquarium has community impact
Submitted by jsigman, Boston
I have been involved in the Aquarium since I was 18 years old. I am now 31! The Aquarium contributes to Boston's vitality because it is a place where thousands of young people have learned that they can be empowered by the world of water. Most of our youth are from Boston and comment that interning at the Aquarium is a life-changing experience.

Visitors Paradise
Submitted by Cheryl, North Shore
The Aquarium is a delightful place for me to take people that come to visit me. Since I am originally from the midwest I have many visitors that have never been to the ocean much less seen the "creatures from the deep" up close and personal. Just last month a dear friend of mine brought her two teenage nephews to Boston for a visit. They live in a small town in Missouri and hadn't been out of their home town of 17,000 since they were born. The 13 year old told me he wanted to be a zoologist. Our visit to the New England Aquarium solidified that resolve. He was fascinated with the hospital and how they were able to heal ocean creatures and then return them to their natural habitat. Good job, NEA!!

A wonder at 40!
Submitted by Kenny, North Shore
Happy 40th Birthday Aquarium!
I remember touching a seastar there as a young child.
Now I bring my kids and they touch the seastars and see the jellies and the seadragons and seals and octopus and penguins and so much more. The kids have fun and I know it's about more than that; it's about knowing some of the animals that share our precious planet that deserve our caring.
We all love it.

knowing our environment
Submitted by val, Boston
Given how close we live to the ocean and the shore, we are grateful to have the aquarium nearby to teach us about what we are looking at and how to interact with the resources we have such great access to. Going to the aquarium has made our trips to Maine, New Hampshire, Cape Cod, the Vineyard beaches much more engaging.

Long live the NEAQ!
Submitted by Gretchen, Boston
I could not imagine this city without the New England Aquarium. It's provided me with wonderful memories since childhood and I still find it fascinating. Whether it be for educational purposes or for adventure, the New England Aquarium is an ever-evolving establishment that is vital to the seacoast and New England in general.
Boston wouldn't be the same without it, and frankly, there would be a lot less incentive for me to visit if NEAQ ever ceased to exist.

Aquarium does so much!
Submitted by Jake, Boston
The exhibits are wonderful. I love the octopus and the sea dragons.
And, the Aquarium rescues endangered sea turtles and nurtures them back to health.
And, they help seafood companies to find sustainable sources of seafood for Stop & Shop and other stores and restaurants.
And, they help endangered right whales.
And, they teach our kids so much--at the aquarium and at schools and with scout groups and more.
It's a great community resource.

A wonderful building!
Submitted by Q.W., South Shore
I was at the Aquarium this weekend and was lucky enough to hear Peter Chermayeff speak. He was one of the original architects of the Aquarium and he gave me a new appreciation of how well this design shows off the wonderful animals and their habitats. It was also interesting to hear about how important this building was for the development of the waterfront area and its impact on the deign of other aquariums. I am now looking at this place that I've been coming to for years in a whole new way!

A connection with the ocean
Submitted by Jennifer, South Shore
I grew up North of Boston and am now on the Cape. The New England Aquarium is special because it enriched my love for the ocean and continues to educate my children and family about sustainable fisheries. Given New England's connection to the ocean, shouldn't we have the best aquarium?

The Many Faces of the New England Aquarium
Submitted by betsy, North Shore
I have wonderful memories of pushing my two sons, now adults, through the Aquarium in a stroller! Their eyes were full of wonder and amazement as the large fish, turtles, and sharks swam by in the tank. Several years later, they watched their own dad swim in that same tank with many of the same fish! Today both these young men love the ocean and all that it offers us. The Aquarium is such an important educational tool for all who visit it as there we learn how important and crucial the ocean's ecosystem is to our planet.
One week ago I was walking my dogs when I saw a New England Aquarium van pulled over to the side of the road. As we got closer, I saw that the Aquarium team was rescuing an Arctic Harp Seal that had been stranded in a marsh for over a week. It reminded me once again how the New England Aquarium is such an important organization. It deserves our support!

Great place, great building
Submitted by H20, West of Boston
It is great to see this as a reminder that it's not just buildings from the 1800s that need to be preserved and cared for. The aquarium is an example of 20th century design, built at a moment in no-so-distant history, that deserves to be celebrated. My sister's family came to visit for a family weekend, recently, when both my sister and nephew had leg injuries that made it hard for them to get around. We figured out that the Aquarium was the perfect place to go. We were able to borrow wheelchairs there, and we easily made the trip down the spiral ramp, getting reacquainted with the beauty and wonder of the big tank and other exhibits. It was a wonderful way to spend the day, and made me happy to live in Boston all over again.

The perfect place to bring the family!
Submitted by Happy Parent, North Shore
Every school vacation we pack up and head to the Aquarium!
It's an incredible resource for us as parents, because we can easily spend the whole day looking at the animals, watching a movie or exploring the waterfront around there. Now with the greenway nearby we can even splash around in the water. Since we've become members it's really not that expensive a day trip either, and the kids are getting to know the animals by name :)

Fond memories
Submitted by Mary Margaret, Boston
I remember coming to the aquarium in the early 1970s with my parents. It was so amazing to me as a little girl and it is still amazing today. There are lots of new animals and exhibits (I love the seadragons!) but I still get the same feeling of awe when I walk in and see the big tank in front of me.

A place for childlike wonder!
Submitted by thejives, North Shore
Since I began visiting the Aquarium, I've brought my 6-year-old nephew, my friends and my younger brothers. It never ceases to amaze me the way people's eyes light up with an irrepressible exuberance the moment the main doors open onto the cavernous towering interior, teeming with squawking penguins, elegant scupltures and schools of fish circling up to the ceiling!
This place is a treasure and it's great to see it recognized as such.
