 Angel Island Immigration Station

About the Angel Island Immigration Station  [See on Map]

After New York's Ellis Island, Angel Island was the second most significant immigration station in the United States. From 1910 through 1940, it was the West Coast entry point for over one million, Pacific Rim immigrants many of whom were detained there as a result of the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act. This "Ellis Island of the West" is using its grant for structural repairs and a new roof for the World War II-era mess hall. The project is expected to be complete by the end of 2008.
